Monica Fuentes Freas is the Acting Senior Deputy Comptroller for Regional and Midsize Financial Institutions in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
In this position, Ms. Freas oversees the supervision of national banks and federal savings associations between $30 and $500 billion in assets. She also serves as a member of the agency’s Executive Committee. Ms. Freas assumed these duties in October 2025.
Prior to this role, Ms. Freas served as one of four deputy comptrollers overseeing the supervision of the OCC’s large bank portfolio.
Ms. Freas also served as the Director of Enforcement in the OCC’s Chief Counsel’s Office and she oversaw the OCC’s Law Department group responsible for conducting investigations and taking administrative enforcement actions against OCC-supervised institutions and institution-affiliated parties.
Ms. Freas received her juris doctor in 1998 from the University of Washington School of Law and a bachelor of science (cum laude) in Business in 1995 from the University of Central Florida.
