Troy Thornton

Troy Thornton is the Deputy Comptroller for the South and Southeast Regions at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

In this role, Mr. Thornton oversees the supervision of more than 340 national banks, federal savings associations, and trust companies spread across twelve states from Texas to Virginia. He manages a staff of more than 350 bank examiners and professionals in 18 offices throughout the division. This staff of field examiners includes safety and soundness examiners as well as specialists in asset management, bank information systems, consumer compliance, capital markets, and credit. He took on these duties in 2017 and reports to the Senior Deputy Comptroller for Midsize and Community Bank Supervision.

Mr. Thornton joined the OCC in 1985 as a Field Examiner in Lubbock, Texas. Since then, he has served as a Problem Bank Analyst, Field Manager, Assistant Deputy Comptroller, and Associate Deputy Comptroller. His career has focused on the supervision of community banks and thrifts, as well as the training and development of new and experienced examiners. Since 2017, Mr. Thornton has chaired the OCC's Examiner Development Committee, served on the National Risk Committee, and served on the Senior Management Group for Midsize and Community Bank Supervision. Mr. Thornton has been significantly involved in promoting awareness of OCC expectations externally as an instructor for the OCC's Community Bank Director Workshop program and industry outreach initiatives.

Mr. Thornton earned his bachelor's in business administration from Abilene Christian University in 1984.
